FIA World Rally Championship
The FIA World Rally Championship is the world's leading off-road racing series, contested over gravel, tarmac, snow, and ice across five continents. Competitors navigate closed public roads against the clock in specially built Rally1 cars, supported by co-drivers reading pace notes.
History
The WRC was established in 1973 and has since produced legendary battles across Finland's forest stages, Kenya's rocky safari terrain, Monte Carlo's Alpine hairpins, and the Welsh valleys. The series has been won by icons including Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Carlos Sainz, Tommi Mäkinen, Sébastien Loeb (9 titles), and Sébastien Ogier (9 titles). Hybrid Rally1 regulations introduced in 2022 brought a major technical reset, with Hyundai, Toyota, and M-Sport Ford as the three competing manufacturers. The 2026 season is the 54th edition and the final year of Rally1 regs before a further overhaul in 2027. Toyota hold a dominant lead in the Manufacturers' Championship with 14 rounds across Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia.
