MotoGP World Championship
The FIM MotoGP World Championship is the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, contested on 1000cc prototype machines capable of speeds exceeding 350 km/h. Five manufacturers — Ducati, Aprilia, Honda, KTM, and Yamaha — field factory and satellite teams across 21 rounds on circuits worldwide.
History
The FIM Road Racing World Championship was established in 1949, making it one of the longest-running motorsport series in existence. The 500cc two-stroke era produced legends like Giacomo Agostini (15 titles), Valentino Rossi (9 titles), and Mick Doohan before the switch to four-stroke MotoGP machinery in 2002. The 2026 season is the final one under 1000cc / Michelin regulations before switching to 850cc engines and Pirelli tyres in 2027. Ducati's dominance has been a defining storyline of the recent era; in 2026, Marc Marquez (nine world titles) joins Francesco Bagnaia at the factory Ducati team. A new 'Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup' support class debuts at selected European and North American rounds.
