Supercars Championship
The Repco Supercars Championship is Australia's premier motorsport series, featuring high-powered V8 touring cars racing at circuits across Australia and New Zealand. Its crown jewel, the Bathurst 1000, is one of the most celebrated endurance races in the world.
History
The Australian Touring Car Championship began in 1960 and evolved through various technical formats before settling into the iconic 'V8 Supercars' identity in the 1990s. The series has been shaped by intense rivalries between Ford and Holden/Chevrolet loyalists — a battle with deep cultural roots in Australia. The arrival of Toyota's GR Supra in 2026 marks a historic shift in the manufacturer landscape. Gen3 regulations (introduced in 2023) brought the current Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro platforms. Chaz Mostert is the defending Drivers' Champion; 2026 sees a record 14 rounds and 37 races, from Auckland to Adelaide.
