Super Formula
The Japanese Super Formula Championship is Japan's premier single-seater series and one of the fastest formula racing championships in the world outside of Formula 1. All cars use an identical Dallara SF23 chassis, making it a pure driver skill contest between Honda and Toyota-powered entries.
History
Japanese Formula racing traces back to 1973. Rebranded as 'Super Formula' in 2013 to signal ambition beyond Japan's borders, the series has attracted international talent including Heikki Kovalainen, Loïc Duval, and Jenson Button in its earlier years, and more recently stars like Romain Grosjean and Stoffel Vandoorne. Identical aerodynamic specifications and a single tyre supplier (Yokohama) ensure extremely close racing. The 2026 season is the 54th edition, with Ayumu Iwasa (Team Mugen) as defending champion and a strong Toyota–Honda manufacturer battle at the heart of it.
