European Rally Championship
The FIA European Rally Championship is the oldest active motorsport championship in the world, in its 74th season in 2026. Contested over seven rounds on asphalt and gravel across Europe, it is the principal continental rally series for Rally2 cars and a training ground for future WRC talent.
History
The ERC was first held in 1953, predating even the World Rally Championship. For most of its history it ran as a loosely structured series awarding titles based on the best results from a calendar of national and international events. The modern era, following the merger with the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in 2013, brought a structured championship with live broadcasting and stronger commercial promotion. The 2026 season marks the series' 74th edition, featuring seven rounds in six countries. The Rally di Roma Capitale joins the WRC in 2027 after its 2026 ERC appearance.
